WoW 3.3 in trouble already

by ReDeYe | 9th December 2009 | Discuss
Just a few hours after release in the US and the latest update to World of Warcraft seems to be causing a lot of issues.

Already, players are complaining of odd bugs, servers going down, slow running and random, unreadable messages coming up on screen. Some are already expecting a fast 3.31 patch to fix the issues, although regular players will no doubt remember previous patches to the game which have not always gone smoothly.

It is hardly surprising given the size and scale of the updates, but the problem doesn't seem restricted to the game with Battle.Net also suffering down time during the evening. Most of the issues seem to be attributed to large amounts of players logging on, but no confirmation has been given from Blizzard as yet.

At the time of writing, the servers remain down for maintenance and there is no word on when they will come back online.

Having played mmos quite a bit I'd say this is normal for a mmog receiving a major patch.

mmo's have gone down for a week or better at a time occasionally... sometimes AFTER A major patch.. and sometimes for no apparent reason at all initially.

Yeah, this wasn't really a big deal for such a major patch. The worst problem I've seen is players being disconnected after completing an instance and trying to board an airship.
