Two problems I am having

First

The sound crackles whenever a new sound is started and sometimes distorts during the playback of the sound as well.

Apparently this is a pretty common issue...

I have found that disabling and enabling the card in "sound" temporarily fixes the problem. Anyone have a permanent solution?

My second problem is, just a few days after I installed my drivers, my card could no longer be detected as a X-FI, it still works but no longer functions under the Creative Control Panel and shows up as " 3 - High Definition Audio Device". Robert suggested that I reinstall my drivers and I will do so, not sure if I should reinstall my master suite as well... He said something about INF as well, not sure what that means exactly.

Thanks :D

I have a PCIe X-Fi Xtreme Audio. I know now that it wasn't that hot a buy, unfortunately it came with my gaming rig, and it's what I've got for a while.

The official drivers would cause sound to constantly pop and crack and snap and it was driving me crazy. It would happen especially when starting to play stuff, so while using Windows with standard system sounds it was a constant thing. I have a 5.1 setup and it was working just fine, though. I tried switching to PAX drivers and they didn't seem to take. My system would just detect my sound card as High Definition Audio Device and the Creative Console would insist I didn't have the correct sound card. 5.1 would not work either. So I went back, but eventually couldn't take it anymore, so I tried to install again.

The same thing happened. I uninstalled all Creative software, then uninstalled from Device Manager, then used Driver Sweeper to clean up, and restarted, then ran the setup from PCIe_PAX_X-Fi_Xtreme_V1.50.7z after following every step, which was the only one that seemed to mention working. However, it seemed to just skip the install drivers step and just installed the software again. I went into the /drivers/ folder where I extracted the 7z, and ran Setup.exe there, and my computer would seem to be working, then nothing would happen. I tried using Run as Administrator and compatibility modes but no dice.

So I downloaded PAX Xtreme Audio DVD Suite 2010 V1.00.7z which was the only other file I could find that made any reference to my sound card, and ran the /drivers/setup.exe in that one, chose windows vista from the options, and it installed the drivers just fine. The Creative Audio Console works now, but as far as I can tell, I'm getting about the same functionality as when it was running with default Windows drivers as a generic High Definition Audio Device.

CMSS-3d, which is one of the main reasons I'd even care about using the Console is doing nothing. I tested my speakers and my rear speakers are working just fine, but music keeps playing out of only the 2 front speakers. Games are recognizing that I do have EAX effects and so forth, but are not using 5.1 sound. It seems the only way my rear speakers play any kind of sound is within Control Panel - Sound - Speaker Setup and testing them there.

I can't seem to figure out what's going on, and it's driving me crazy that I can't have both sound that doesn't crack and pop constantly and 5.1 sound at the same time. It seems to be either PAX drivers that only let me use Stereo sound but have clear playback, or Creative drivers that give me 5.1 sound but constant snaps and pops in sound.

Help?

Important :
Before installing, remove all traces of any previous x-fi drivers and all x-fi driver, by removing the driver within "Device Manager". To clean up any excess files left on your system, you should use a 3rd party program to do this job (unless you've a good understanding of the registry) A recommended program to do this is Driver Sweeper - which is freeware, and available from Guru3D - Driver Sweeper or paid version at hardwareheaven.com driver cleaner.net

Then Please used a Reg Fixer program like Iobit.com windows adv one care. Or Crap Cleaner or any other tune up programs that fix Reg and that Defrag the Reg. Please check for error on hard drive before installing new driver.

What is Pax?

Formally known as Youpax, Pax was founded by Robert McClelland 5 years ago, who is continuing to provide an alternative tweaked driver to the Official driver released by Creative.

Why should I install this Pax alternative?

Pax is aimed at improving sound quality and to give a more deeper bass sound, while retaining the clarity of the overall output audio. Most users continue to use Pax drivers once moving over and never look back!
